Saturday, May 07, 2022 - Vincent Smith General Store Grand Opening

New Main St. Store is Extension of Vocational Program

Port Washington, NY, Apr. 26, 2022 The press and public are invited to the Grand Opening of the Vincent Smith General Store on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 11:00 am. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, followed by the opening of the store to the general public.

The event will take place at 189 Main Street, Port Washington from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The store is an extension of the special ed. school’s Vocational Explorations in Education Program. High school students, particularly those who might not be college-bound, can supplement their regular curriculum with exploring various vocational opportunities. The General Store will give students the opportunity to develop hands-on, essential job skills like customer service, sales, and store upkeep, to help them transition into their post-school lives.

John Baldi, the Head of School, emphasized the importance of the learning aspect of the store. “Our students are excited at the prospect of gaining hands-on job skills in their very own store. By interacting with customers and learning the ins and outs of retail, they’ll gain invaluable experience that will serve them long after they leave Vincent Smith. We all look forward to this new way of being involved in the welcoming and vibrant Port Washington community.”
