Vincent Smith School Special Education/College Fair
Pairs Parents with Providers
The Vincent Smith School hosted its 7th Annual Special Education College Fair. The Special Education/College Fair was created in response to the Island-wide call to share information about learning disabilities. Vincent Smith, located in Port Washington, is the premier independent school on Long Island dedicated to serving the needs of learning disabled students and reluctant learners in grades 4-12.
The annual fair has a history of meeting the ever-increasing needs of Long Island’s parents and professionals. It would not have been possible without the support of Roslyn Savings Foundation, MetDesk – Bill Hesllin/Gloria Wagner and Jessica Kingsley Publishers who served as this year’s sponsors.
The fair allowed participants to access information from service providers in the metropolitan area – parent organizations, after school programs, education remediation, hospital providers, financial planners, legal advisory services, transition planners, preschool programs, college programs, etc. “The Special Edcuation/College Fair is an extremely important aspect of our community outreach,” said Arlene Wishnew, Head of School. “Without the generous support of our sponsors and the commitment to participate from service providers, a lot of families would not have important information about or access to, needed services.”
Professional organizations that participated in this year’s fair include, but are not limited to, Adults and Children with Learning Disabilities; Adelphi University/Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders; AHA; Autism Speaks; Brain Balance Center; Camp Horseability; Camp Paquatuck; College Internship Program (Berkshire Center); CW Post College/Ladge Speech & Hearing Center; Dowling College; EAC Meditation Alternative Project; East Meadow Little League Challenger Division;Edward Jones Investments; Elaine Lerner, MSW, CSW – ADHD Trainer; ELIJA School; Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island; Fay J.
