The Vincent Smith School offers as many and as wide a variety of enrichment activities as possible, to help promote positive social experiences, self-esteem, and cultural appreciation.
Clubs
9th period is dedicated to club activity every day, with each student participating in an activity of their choosing. Students have a plethora of clubs from which to choose, and they can change every semester.
Some recent examples are: Cooking, Yearbook, SAT Prep, Pottery, Yoga, Chess, Newspaper, Meditation, Music, Science, and Walking Club. Students can also offer their own ideas for a club.
In addition, students contribute to the school and our community by holding community service programs, such as their annual Coat Drive, Canned Food Drive, and Toy Drive.
Events
Day field trips are scheduled throughout the School year, including museums, zoos, theater, and sporting events. Spirit Week, Art Show, Field Day, and Talent Show are among the school and family activities that provide additional enrichment for our students. Students also participate in school-wide celebrations like a costume party for Halloween, a Thanksgiving feast, and school dances for the upper school.
Culture
Vincent Smith School recognizes and supports promotion of the arts as an integral factor of a well-rounded education. Particularly for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, or anxiety, the ability to express themselves creatively is a vital and necessary component of their developing self-esteem and self-advocacy.
Our music and art programs are robust and students engage and delight in many art forms such as photography, sculpture, and painting while simultaneously learning about artists and their works. VSS hosts an annual spring Art Show where the students' best works of the year are on display in our lobby gallery. Additionally, we hold an end-of-year Talent Show for students to display their musical and other artistic talents before the student body and their families.
