Vincent Smith School Class of 2009 Jacob Schepsman, Valedictorian
The Vincent Smith School proudly announces that Jacob Schepsman has earned the rights and privileges that accompany the title of its Class of 2009 Valedictorian. Jake came to Vincent Smith School in 2001 as a bright young fifth grader. Eight years later he has matured into one of the leaders of his graduating class.
After working his way to an A (96.167) average at Vincent Smith School, Jake will go on to major in mathematics at the Castleton College in Vermont. He has dreamed of taking of his place at the head of the class for years. He has accomplished part of his goal by earning the distinction of being named class valedictorian. His dream will be fully realized once he begins teaching his first class upon graduation from Castleton. Jake found that Castleton met all of his academic and social needs, while also being close enough to come home to Port Washington and visit when he wanted.
Jake has been actively involved in many clubs and extracurricular activities since he started classes at Vincent Smith School.”Everyone was always friendly,” said Jacob. “It made getting involved and making friends really easy. After all of these years, we feel more like family than friends. I’m going to miss everybody, but I’ll take part of each of them with me.”
Jacob has received all of Vincent Smith School’s most prestigious awards –the Adelaide Vincent Smith Award named after one of the school’s founders; the Vincent Smith School PTA award (twice), given to the student in his/her class who shows the most academic effort, deportment and service to the school; the Ralph Rice Science Award (twice) for academic achievement; and the MIRA award for Reading. Jacob has also received countless sports awards as a member of the softball, basketball and soccer teams.
